Morning Star Montessori operates on a 10-month academic calendar (August–May).
At Morning Star Montessori, we view attendance and punctuality as an important part of your child’s overall experience. A consistent routine helps children feel secure, confident, and fully engaged in their learning environment. We also understand that families have varying schedules and occasional needs, and we are committed to working in partnership with you.
If your child will be absent, we kindly ask that families notify both the front office and the classroom guide as early as possible. For planned absences, advance notice is greatly appreciated.
For extended absences (such as special family events or international travel), we encourage families to connect with the Level Director in advance so we can support your child’s smooth transition back into the classroom. In some cases, a simple reintegration plan may be recommended.
If a child is home due to illness, we ask that they rest fully and not attend any extended-day or enrichment programs that same day.
Consistent attendance supports your child’s academic progress, social development, and sense of belonging. If absences become frequent, our team will reach out to collaborate with your family and develop a supportive plan moving forward.
In alignment with guidance from the Virginia Department of Education, schools monitor attendance patterns. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10% or more of the school year. Our goal is always to work proactively with families to ensure the best outcomes for each child.
Arriving on time helps children transition calmly into the classroom and begin their day with confidence. Late arrivals can sometimes feel disruptive for both the child and the classroom flow.
We understand that occasional delays happen. If your child will be late, please notify the front office and classroom guide in advance whenever possible.
If a pattern of tardiness develops, we will reach out to connect with your family and explore ways to support a smoother morning routine. Our approach is always collaborative and solution-focused, with the goal of helping your child feel settled and ready to learn each day.
Morning Star Montessori is committed to working alongside families with understanding, flexibility, and clear communication—just as we do with our flexible tuition options (annual, quarterly, and monthly plans) designed to support a variety of family needs.
Our shared goal is simple: to create a stable, nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
